On 11 October 2011, the Australian Parliament passed legislation allowing universities and other higher education providers to charge a fee for student services and amenities of a non-academic nature. This fee can be charged weather you intend to use these services or not.
RMIT does not have to justify where it spends the money and IS UNDER NO OBLIGATION to charge anything at all!
The legislation passed only ALLOWS Australian universities to charge this fee and in no way is it compulsory as suggested by many.
A maximum fee of $263 is allowable and unsurprisingly RMIT is exploiting ALL of this.
Sign this petition to present to RMIT to show your disgust at this blatant money grabbing move.
We, the undersigned, call on RMIT to scrap the $263 per year student services tax which is being levied on all students.
