The name for the new school in Hyden, Ky, Mountain View Elem, is not the name it should be.
Richard P. Bowling, was one the best superintendents this county has seen, and was one of the longest ones that served in office.
First of all; Mountain View is not a good school name for Leslie County schools, or any school for that matter.
Second, it should be named after someone that has accomplished, or improved the education of our children. There are schools named after previous superintendents in this county, it only make sense to do the same for someone who Got The Job Done Right.
We, the undersigned, call on the Board of Education, to reconsider the name for the new school, and name it Richard P. Bowling or Richard Bowling Elementary instead of Mountain View Elem.
We think it should be named after someone who did something for us. We should return the favor.
