Uganda Airlines is a defunct. Uganda Airlines Corporation went out of business in May 2001.
Several local, regional and international firms expressed an interest in taking over Uganda Airlines upon privatization, but later pulled out, leaving only South Africa Airways, which also backed out.
The government is putting a lot of money to remodel and give a facelift to Entebbe International Airport, only to be enjoyed by foreign airlines.
Uganda's economic prosperity is linked to those avenues that open it to the rest of the world for free international trade. Thus, Uganda Airlines’ operations on its domestic and international routes will always remain a major aspect in the economic and social development of the country.
Uganda Airlines is needed to play its role of connecting Uganda to the rest of the world with verve and tenacity.
On their webpage, the Uganda civil aviation association says:
Uganda has concluded Bilateral Air Service Agreements with twelve countries. Eleven International Airlines have scheduled operations to and from Entebbe International Airport serving 11 destinations.
They also offer connection to the rest of the world. Uganda's geographical location in the heart of Africa, gives Entebbe International Airport greater advantage for hub and spoke operations in the Great Lakes region.
We, the undersigned, believe that Uganda needs her own national career instead of throwing money into other airlines. We urge the government of Uganda to revive this national cause.
Revive the Uganda Airline!
