This petition calls for the frequency to be revised to include a routine well-baby
visit at three months of age.
The Canadian Pediatric Association, Health Canada, Dietitians of Canada, World
Health Organization and most health care professionals advise exclusive breast-
feeding for the first six months of life. However, there are some cases in which
babies who thrive for the first two months of age begin not to gain as well after
the first two to four months because of an unexplained decrease in the
mother's milk supply at three months postpartum.
For this reason, health care professionals should schedule a routine visit at
three months of age to monitor the infant's progress and to provide
recommendations in the event of slow or little weight gain.
We, the undersigned, call on the BC Ministry of Health to recommend a routine
well-child visit at three months of age.
