The town board wants to hear from Alfred Town and Village Residents about their concerns pertaining to the proposed industrial wind turbines that may be sited in Alfred. It is time to become active and attend the board meeting on May 13, 2010 at the Alfred Station Fire Hall at 7:00pm.
Issues of concern: negative impacts that industrial wind turbines sited within close proximity to homes will have on the local environment and landscape, our health and quality of life, property values, noise and other long term effects.
In drafting a local wind law for the Town of Alfred, the Board researched over 1,500 pages of documentation from various studies and reports which indicated that a 1.5 to 2 mile distance is recommended as the setback for a wind turbine from a residence.
In spite of this research, the Board's draft wind law prescribes only a .5 mile setback, which is inconsistent with their own research findings.
In order to protect the health and quality of life of our neighbors and our families, we are requesting that the Board increase the setback to 1.5 to 2 miles.
