United States of America

We disagree that the solution for Pullman School District is to delay implementing the Reopening Plan until January 4th. We are the only school in the county not offering any in-person learning. Other local schools have returned successfully and can be used as a positive example for PSD to also return to school. County and District medical professionals recommend returning as soon as possible to mitigate the negative consequences of prolonged online schooling.

The School Board-approved Reopening plan is safe and conservative and allows for continued online learning, but ALSO allows families to choose to send their children to school for in-person learning. Delaying the start of school will have numerous unintended consequences. Many families are leaving the district, leaving PSD in an even more precarious financial situation than it is already in. There are also concerns about achievement gaps, children failing classes, negative impact on mental health, unmet social needs, too much screen time, and many others.

I support giving families the opportunity to choose in-person learning for their child(ren) and request the Pullman School District (PSD) School Board re-vote on a start date NO LATER THAN November 30th for Kindergarten and 1st grade AND to drop any unrealistic requirements for reopening, such as on-site testing.

While we recognize the need for some families to educate exclusively online, we also recognize the superiority of in-person learning and ask the school board to initiate the Pullman School District Reopening Plan BEFORE January 4th so that families will have the ability to CHOOSE what is best for their family.

It is time for the PSD School Board to STOP ignoring the other half of Pullman School District families and allow our children access to in-person education immediately.
