Every Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month which comes around once a year, Geylang Serai will light up with activities to usher in Hari Raya Aidilfitri which is an important celebration for the Muslim community world wide and not just in Singapore. The Bazaar's intention is to be a marketplace for the Malay-Muslim community to purchase food for their break fast as well as a marketplace to purchase items for the celebration of Hari Raya. Recently the bazaar is starting to lose its historical significance and turning to be more 'hipster' with even non-halal food made available when the purpose of the bazaar in the first place is to support the Muslim community. While diversity is encourage - however certain cultural and historical significance should be given respect to and maintained, otherwise Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar is no different than any other Bazaar that happens all year round. If the Chinese can have Chinatown still intact in it's cultural significance when CNY come around - why is the Malay Muslim Geylang Serai forced to lose its heritage? The government seem to be pushing the original Ramadan Bazaar into Arab Street, however the name itself doesn't reflect the heritage of the Malays which has always been embedded in Geylang Serai. We need to take a stand and ensure that Bazaar Ramadan Geylang Serai does not lose its heritage and continue to serve the future generations. Singapore has lost alot of its historical and cultural heritage for the sake of so called development, but countries worldwide have shown that we don't need to lose such heritage but rather we can be innovative in blending it and in turn creating a unique urban program which will be Uniquely Singapore!

Please sign this petition in support in reinstating the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar back to its original intention. Diversity is still encourage but it must be within the heritage and cultural significant barriers which includes:
1. Food operators must only sell Halal certified food
2. Lowering the astronomical rents to allow small time hawkers to return and sell traditional goodies and goods to usher in Hari Raya.
3. Introduce cultural activities to teach other races and even tourist of the cultural significance of Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar.
