Wyoming Game and Fish Department data reflects that current population figures of the Hi-Line flock of Canadian geese is sufficient to sustain a daily bag limit of five (5) birds per day. A reduction in the current daily bag limit to three (3) dark geese would not significantly impact harvest or population totals.
During the April 24, 2007 meeting of the Wyoming Game and Fish commission, the daily bag limit was reduced to three (3) dark geese per day.
This action was taken without sufficient notice to the hunting public or public comment period.
We, the undersigned, petition the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to reinstate the daily bag limit on dark geese in Goshen and Platte Counties of Wyoming to five (5) birds with a maximum of (10) birds in possession for the 2007-2008 hunting season, as set forth in Department regulations governing late migratory waterfowl Chapter 14, Section 5 (v).
Wyoming Game and Fish Department data clearly reflects that such a regulation is not necessary and will have very little effect on the overall number of geese harvested or the number of wintering geese in Goshen and Platte Counties.
