Restore Funding to the SHCC and the Sandy Hook Pier

This petition is to encourage the RM of Gimli Council to restore funding to the Sandy Hook Community Club so that it may continue with its operations in the future, and so it may continue to be able to purchase materials and coordinate volunteers for the Sandy Hook Pier.

This spring the Council arbitrarily and inexplicably cut funding by one-third, which is devastating to the SHCC given its shoe-string budget, it's operating costs, and the costs related to the Sandy Hook Pier, an iconic summer landmark that has been part of the Sandy Hook summer landscape for 70 years.

The Council washed its hands of the pier in 2009, but under public pressure, they provided the SHCC with funding to buy pier materials, and tasked the SHCC with building the pier with volunteers. For the past 5 years the SHCC has continued to provide the excellent summer programming it always has provided, as well as overseeing the substantial infrastructure project of the Sandy Hook Pier.

The Council's slashing of funding, part of which was meant to provide for an historic and annual infrastructure project that the RM of Gimli unloaded onto the SHCC in 2009, jeopardizes the continuation of the Sandy Hook Pier along with everything else the SHCC does. Shame on you, RM of Gimli Council!
