We disagree with Tameside Council's proposal to impose a blanket ban on all dogs from parks and cemeteries because of a minority of irresponsible owners who refuse to clean up after their animals.
It is most unfair to the innocent majority to restrict access to all when efforts should be made to solve the problem instead of moving it to a different area. It seems they want to adopt this option as the easiest and cheapest way but by no means effective way of stopping these people from soiling other public areas.
It is depriving the dogs and their owners of exercising in places funded by our council tax.
We the undersigned request that the consideration by Tameside Council for a blanket ban on dogs from parks and cemeteries and any other public places be reconsidered, and that the rights of many responsible dog owners and walkers should not be jeopardised by the minority.
Every effort should be made by the council to ensure that this minority are targeted and dealt with using the full legislation that has been introduced but not properly enforced.
