Require The Use Of Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs In All Government Buildings In The State Of Georgia
- Target:
- Sonny Perdue

- United States of America
According to the Center for Global Development, the Southern Company ranks #6 in the world in terms of carbon dioxide pollution, a greenhouse gas that causes global climate change.
It produces over 172,000,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year. Georgia Power Company, a subsidiary of the Southern Company, contains the highest carbon dioxide polluting powerplants in the country.
The Scherer plant in Juliette, Georgia produces 25,300,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, the largest carbon dioxide polluter in the United States.
One way to decrease the carbon dioxide pollution is to decrease energy use.
According to Georgia Power, ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs use about 75 percent less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer.
To curb energy use, carbon dioxide pollution, and global warming, we the undersigned call on the Governor of Georgia, Sonny Perdue, to require the use of compact fluorescent light bulbs or LED light bulbs for all light bulb replacements in all buildings owned by the State of Georgia.
