On December 31, 2008, the Knoxville City Council voted 8-1 to pass an ordinance making parking in yards within the city of Knoxville unlawful. The ordinace will take effect after a six-week public notice and will be begin with a six-week grace period where violators will be issued warnings.
This ordinance was placed into effect without the consideration of those who do not have ample space to park or turn around within their own driveways. This ordinance is a violation of privacy, a step to remove the freedom citizens have to do as they choose at their own homes, as well as allowing the local government to over step their bounds.
This is a violation of privacy and surely, there are more important criminals to be caught than those parking in their own front yards.
We the undersigned citizens of Knoxville, call upon the Knoxville City Council to repeal the yard parking ordinance voted upon on December 31, 2008.
