In the year 2011, the Government of Kenya introduced a law barring the importation of any cars into the country that were more than 8 years old. This is in direct contravention to the constitution that allows me (a Kenyan citizen) the freedom to own property.
The 8 year rule, does not benefit the country in any way and instead actually harms the economy. The Vintage Car industry is a potential employer of thousands (Car dealers, mechanics, Jua Kali artisans) of youth who find themselves currently unemployed.
We, the Vintage Car Industry in Kenya, call on the Government of Kenya to repeal the law forbidding the importation of cars over 8 years.
