On Monday, June 3rd, the Clay City Council voted to place an immediate ban on Pit Bulls or any variation of a Pit Bull. This language is set forth in their vicious dog ordinance.
First and foremost the citizens of Clay were given NO notice or chance to voice their opposition. There was no precipitating event of any Pit Bull being a danger in the City of Clay. The choice to ban Pit Bulls came at the request of Sherriff Mike Hale who used his position of power to persuade the Clay City Council to act with sweeping legislation within 6 days of his request.
We seek a repeal of this ordinance due in part to its Breed Specific language. We ask, if an ordinance is required, it specifically define a vicious dog by its actions not its bloodline.
We the undersigned demand a repeal of Clay City Ordinance 2013-15. We do not approve of breed specific legislation in Clay.
We request if a vicious animal ordinance is in order, one be drafted to define a vicious animal by its demonstrated actions and not by its breed.
