Changes to 'Access to Information and Personal Privacy Act' via government Bill 29 have fostered a sense of serious and dire mistrust between the current provincial government and the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
These changes enhance cabinet secrecy and challenge widely accepted principles of openness and transparency that are hallmarks of western democracy.
We, the undersigned, call on The Lieutenant-Governor Newfoundland and Labrador, The Honorable John C Crosbie to either:
(1) Not give Royal Assent to Bill 29 (and, or),
(2) Return the Bill to the House of Assembly for further amendments that allow more transparency (and, or),
(3) Send to the Governor General of Canada for further review.
