a grave and ongoing humanitarian crisis in Pakistan, specifically in the Kurram District, where the Tal-Parachinar road has been closed for over 85 days. This blockade has precipitated widespread violations of basic human rights, with dire consequences for the local population.

The road closure has effectively severed the region from vital supply chains, resulting in acute shortages of essential commodities, including food, fuel, and medical supplies. The situation has reached a critical point where:

Infants and children are succumbing to malnutrition and preventable diseases due to the lack of food and medical care.

Life-saving drugs, including insulin and essential medications for heart patients and transplant recipients, are unavailable, causing numerous deaths.

Patients requiring oxygen support and emergency care are unable to access treatment, leading to avoidable fatalities.

The unavailability of fuel, including petrol, gas, and LPG, has paralyzed daily life and impeded humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering.

This dire humanitarian crisis disproportionately impacts the most vulnerable, including women, children, and the elderly. The closure has not only denied the people of Kurram District their fundamental rights to life, health, and dignity but has also created conditions of collective punishment that contravene international human rights and humanitarian laws.

As the custodian of international peace, justice, and human rights, the United Nations is uniquely positioned to address such crises. We humbly urge you to:

Intervene immediately to advocate for the reopening of the Tal-Parachinar road to ensure the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid and essential supplies.

Engage with the Government of Pakistan to prioritize the resolution of this crisis and uphold its obligations under international human rights instruments.

Mobilize relevant UN agencies, including the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the World Health Organization (WHO), to provide urgent assistance to the affected population.

The people of Kurram District are in desperate need of your support. Your intervention could save countless lives and alleviate the suffering of an entire community that has been left to endure unimaginable hardship.

To:

Prime Minister of Pakistan

Secretary-General of the United Nations

Director-General of the World Health Organization

High Commissioner for Human Rights & Others.

We, the undersigned, urgently call for immediate action to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Kurram District of Pakistan.

The closure of the Tal-Parachinar road for over 85 days has created an alarming situation, endangering the lives of 700,000 residents. This blockade has resulted in severe shortages of essential commodities, including food, fuel, and medical supplies. The harsh winter conditions, with freezing temperatures, are further worsening the plight of vulnerable populations, including women, children, and the elderly.

The crisis includes:

Infants and children dying due to malnutrition and preventable diseases.

Lack of life-saving drugs such as insulin and heart medications, causing untimely deaths.

Patients requiring oxygen and emergency care facing fatal delays.

The unavailability of fuel, gas, and LPG, paralyzing daily life.

We demand the immediate reopening of the Tal-Parachinar road to ensure the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid and essential supplies. Additionally, we call upon the government and international organizations to provide emergency relief and ensure the protection of fundamental human rights in the region.
