Come on Kiwis…this is a no brainer. We’ve been talking about it too long…I can’t find any petition to sign so here we are, please let me know if I’ve overlooked one.
It goes without saying that with GDP up 6+%, this coming primarily from service increases, rates, insurance, power etc, and this figure is without housing included, there is certainly NO increase in OUR spending by choice and probably a decrease.
As a nation a large percentage are cutting their FOOD in quality and quantity as a necessity and a lot, too many, are unable to make ends meet with little to no discretionary spend ability.
Most are struggling just to get petrol…set to get only higher as of 24th February.
Removing GST off all Food and Groceries (excluding alcohol, tobacco and vaping products) and yes this applies to all RESTAURANTS, CAFES, PUBS etc, off the food only portion, will probably be tricky to arrange up the supply chain to where is the applicable point to charge, but surely someone in IRD has this calculation?
From my layman viewpoint if growers, freighters etc, didn’t have to charge and collect GST on the Food and Groceries, then they wouldn't have to pass it on, and likewise restaurants etc. Imported goods already have import taxes applied to them so any way I look at it we are being taxed multiple times already before we buy it.
LETS STOP TALKING ABOUT IT…..sign the petition and LETS PUSH THIS THROUGH…just this one thing WILL make a huge difference to YOU and to ALL Kiwis.
LETS GET GST OFF JUST FOOD AND GROCERIES it’s a start!!

We the undersigned, as representatives of the voting power that creates and changes our own Government, require that an exemption on GST be applied to all FOOD and GROCERIES(excluding alcohol, tobacco and vaping items)
