Remembering Brave Mohammad Ali Haj Aghaei, murdered by Iranian regime 24 January 2011

Mohammad Ali Haj Aghaei was sentenced to death and this sentenced confirmed by the Appeals Court on 15th May 2010. The charges were for "enmity against God", and "propaganda against the system". In his case this means 'communications with other protesters' and a death sentence is completely disproportionate, even should such charges be true.

There is no evidence that Mohammad has committed any 'crime' and lawyers say all he did was join the mass protests again the Iranian regime on Ashura.

Also like Jafar Kazemi, Mohammad did not have access to independent legal assistance and was restricted from seeing his family during his prosecution.

Mohammad’s case was referred to section 28 of the Revolutionary Court where he was sentenced to death by Judge Mohammad Moghisei, who is infamous for his harsh judgement towards political prisoners, as he has openly stated on numerous occasions that former political prisoners should have been executed when initially arrested.

His inhuman treatment continued when the regime tried to force him to record a 'false confession' on video in January 2011. He bravely refused. The regime then took him, and Jafar Kazemi and pretended they were going to hang them. They then returned them to jail.

On Monday 24th January 2011 Mohammad was taken, without the knowledge of either his family or his lawyer, and murdered by the Iranian regime. He denied all charges to the end.

Barbaric human rights violations like this carried out by the Iranian regime cannot be allowed to continue.
