This park is used on an everyday basis by a diversified groups of many people be they, those that come to fish, bike, kayak, boat, hike, picnic, camp, have reunions, wedding receptions, snow mobile, ice skate, cross country ski, ride horses, nature watching, or just to enjoy the outdoors. Boy and Girl Scouts even earn badges and have outings on the canal. School groups come out to learn about nature and the canal.
If the The Hennepin Canal is further neglected, it will have a devastating effect on all the communities around it, economically and health wise.

Beginning on January 1, 2013, the State of Illinois enacted a $2.00 increase in motor vehicle fees for the specific purpose of providing aid to the State's declining Parks. The fee was expected to generate an additional $20 million per year for that purpose. Yet, our parks continue to decline and are threatened with closure.
We the undersigned urge all policy and law makers to REJECT further neglect of the Hennepin Canal Parkway and to ACTIVELY PURSUE steps to REPAIR, RESTORE and PRESERVE our 107 year old waterway which is used and enjoyed by thousands of citizens each year.
