In 1998 Spencer Gulf Obedience Dog Club successfully lobbied the Whyalla City Council for a discount when registering a dog trained to Domestic Dog Standard. With the recent changes to the Dog and Cat Management Act that discount has been removed, with discounts only applying for desexing, micro-shipping and concession card holders. Our Club believes that training a dog to be safe in the community is equally as important. The Council's own publicity for Dog Registration states "be a good owner and desex, microchip and train your dog", thereby acknowledging the importance of training.
We, the undersigned, call on the Whyalla City Council to reinstate the discount provided when registering a dog which has been trained to Domestic Dog Standard, commencing 1 July, 2019.
