In the last 3 years in Malta the rent I have paid has increased 50% and that includes having to downsize to a 1 bedroom flat.
My rent now takes 49% of my income.
This has become unsustainable unless my salary increases substantially.
We the undersigned request the Maltese Government to regulate the rental market to ensure that Maltese and foreign tenants are paying a fair rent.
It may mean classifying properties but rent for normal workers should be fair.
Furthermore any future rent rises should be limited to a formula linked to the rate of inflation.
