The Department of Human Services in Victoria have made a point of sundering Families and Marriages in this state in recent years under the guise of child welfare. Often even if they fail to find evidence during their investigation they refuse to allow a family to return to its previous condition and get on with their lives as it would involve admitting they were wrong.
Having a Disability or Mental Illness does not Arbitrarily make someone an unfit parent.
DHS policy of determining guilt without cause or the accused being allowed defense needs to stop.
Families need to be allowed to be families for the sake of the emotional support they provide for children to thrive, taking apart a stable family unit without cause is traumatic for the children and amounts to child abuse.
We the undersigned demand that Father's be permitted to return home following inconclusive police investigations and their families permitted to recover.
That DHS be required to fulfil a burden of proof, that Father's should be given the right to defend against Accusations made.
A Civil Servant should not be given the power of judgement, with the accused being given no right to appeal or defense.
We demand that DHS acknowledge the value of intact Families to our children and make intact families their first priority and exclusion their last resort not first step.
