I have only been living here a couple of months with my two small children, and have had issues with other residents speeding down our neighborhood roads. The speed limit is 35, which isn't unreasonable, but the residents who don't have small children go up to 45-50mph! I don't know if changing it to 25 will keep them from flying down the roads in our neighborhood, but maybe it will slow them down to the reasonable 35 and make them think of why it's been changed.
There are a lot of small children in our area, and kids sometimes don't pay attention to the fast car zipping up the road and could easily run out for their ball or from one another and get hit. These cars are just going too fast.
One incident I've had recently was me and my 2 year old son were walking up and down the road and right in front of our home we stopped to draw on the road with chalk. We were on the right side, car was coming from the left, and this car didn't even hesitate to slow, but rather sped up and passed us. I know they were going faster that 35! My son doesn't understand the danger of the road yet, no matter how many times I tell him. I had a hold of his hand to be safe when I saw the car, but we do play in our front yard a lot and I do have to keep an eye on him cause he likes to run up to the road and watch the neighbors kids play across the street.
I worry about their safety when they are playing because they are so carefree and love play with big bouncing ball that sometimes go out in the road. If it wasn't considered being mean and rude to go tell the people who are speeding to slow down, I would. But people these days don't care to talk to one another and get defensive. Also, people are crazy and I am not trying to start a neighborhood feud.
Please help us get the speed limit changed. Maybe a 'children at play' sign on our roads.
Thank you.
As a parent of 2 small children, I would like to take action on getting the speed limit reduced to 25 in my neighborhood to help make it a little safer for our kids.
Some people in our area often don't pay attention to our kids or the speed limit on our roads, they just see a straight long road and want to fly down it.
We need to change the speed limit to get them to realize they have been going too fast. Our children that are only 1 to 6 or so years old, don't understand that our sometimes quiet road, is a speedway for some of our neighbors and not safe sometimes.
We do our best to keep them safe, but we all look away at some point. And that one moment when you just glanced away, your child is in the road and here comes that car you see everyday, not paying attention and speeding.
You cant have a constant eye on your babies all day everyday. With this speed limit change at least the roads might calm down enough to where they have time to stop.
