The Outstanding Public Debt as of 15 Sep 2008 at 11:02:02 PM GMT is: $9,689,193,735,41844 (yes that is not a type-o. The estimated population of the United States is 304,734,474
so each citizen's share of this debt is $31,795.53.
The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $1.93 billion per day since September 28, 2007!
Obviously the war is a big contributor to these numbers, however it is not the complete problem. This has been an ongoing problem for decades, because we as US citizens did not bother to get involved. But what does this mean for our futures, our childrens and our childrens childrens futures? Our currency value is the lowest it has ever been and countries do not want to loan us any more money. This money will have to be repaid, and the interest alone is overwhelming.
We can not afford to have a negitive balance any more! No matter what it takes, we have to stop borrowing money. Also as US citizens and taxpayers we should be outraged that we are funding government field trips around the world, congressmen who stay at $5000 a night hotels and play golf in Paris at our expense, government funded 'secret' projects, paying $800 for a hammer, all this nonsense which comes out of our pockets and increases our national debt.
Another problem is that other countries like Japan are buying up US real estate at alarming rates and soon very little of the US will be owned by the US.
We propose that ALL funds be accounted for, down to the last penny, in an open to the public record, both at the national library in DC, and also on the internet.
We have a right to know what our ELECTED representatives are doing with OUR hard earned money. Further we propose that the national budget be voted on by US, who is flipping a majority of the bill.
IF we do not agree to giving 200 billion to foreign investments, or an over inflated travel expense for elected officials, or maybe the majority of US citizens will not support any foreign aid whatsoever, until we get our budget problems under control.
Why should we continue to pay so much, to stay broke and in debt? Which is why we propose that every little item in the budget be voted on, including this outrageous bill for this war which has nothing to do with the 9/11 attack.
We can not afford to maintain our country, yet we can go millions a DAY further in debt. How much has this war cost us to date? Trillions, and what has been accomplished so far? We executed a few dictators, which is good, so let them rebuild their country, why is that our responsibility?
We are playing 'world police' which is making our most of the world hate us, and we are paying billions to do it. As US citizens we want to vote on whether we agree to flip the bill for this war.
