Currently records filed at the Recorder's office are deemed public and this puts our personal information at risk. Anyone can gain access to birth dates, social security numbers, death certificates, etc are available to anyone for a price.

The time has come to call upon the Utah legislature to protect our identity.

We, the residents of Utah petition the Utah Legislature to safeguard our personal information in public records with regard to documents filed with the County Recorder.

It is apparent that sensitive personal information such as social security numbers, death certificates less than 60 years old, birth dates, and bank account numbers are available to anyone that pays a fee to obtain a list, view online, or in person.

This needs to change. It is time for the legislature to move to safeguard the identities of its citizens. I entreat the Utah legislature to enact legislation that allows for redacting of personal identifiers with political subsets such as the County Recorder for public records.

The Records Without Risk petition to Utah residents was written by Mary Bishop and is in the category Politics at GoPetition.
