On July 1, 1982 Glenn Allison rolled the first three game 900 series in history. The ABC decided not to honor Glenn Allison's 900 series. The lanes were inspected after his bowling and they were found to be out of specifications by a smear test. The lanes were not dressed in accordance with rules under ABC Article 7, Section 3.
A team of local association lane inspectors inspect the lanes. The three men made the inspection and filled out the form. While the box for non-compliance was properly checked, the word "non" was left off the written report. The three inspectors signed affidavits pointing out that they had meant to write "non-complying".
The next morning ABC director Ken Knapp of Los Angeles was called in to inspect the lanes. ABC administrative assistant Burt Kellermann of Milwaukee was advised of the score on July 2 and flew to Los Angeles. Kellermann made the third inspection.
There were two shifts of league BEFORE the lanes where inspected. Oil moves around and dispates. For the third inspection the next day lanes must have been even drier.
Glenn did not have a particle or resin ball with high tech cores and balance holes with high tech oiling machines. He used a plastic ball. Not to take anything away from the bowlers that have rolled 900 since Glenn but his was done under more difficult conditions than today.
As members in good standing with the United States Bowling Congress we asking you to help us, the members of this great orginization to stand up and do what is right and what we all want.
