December 15th 1999 I was involved in a car accident. I was 37 weeks into my pregnancy but sadly my baby did not survive. She was included in the VIC road toll but was not seen as a person in the eyes of the law.
The other driver who was at fault was not charged with the death of my baby...he was charged with causing serious injury to myself.
To my knowledge since my car accident there have been 4 or 5 other victims of the same circumstances.
I Nancy Asani call upon the Attorney General's Office to change the law of unborn babies that are victims of road deaths in the State of Victoria.
Victorian law does not recognise a foetus as a child until it has taken it's first breath. Something must be done.
