Thanks to everyone who signed and supported the petition and campaign to re-locate the Issaquah skate park. The Issaquah Community Network is now closing this petition. We are pleased that 261 people joined the cause!
You made a big difference. On June 25, Mayor Ava Frisinger prepared an ordinance for review that would fund a public outreach process and site location for a new skate park. In August, the ordinance was reviewed and referred back to the city council with a favorable recommendation by the Services and Safety Committee. On September 3, the Issaquah City Council will discuss and possibly vote on the ordinance at their regular council meeting at 7:00 p.m. The ordinance specifies up to $350,000 for construction of a new skate park.
We will continue to send brief updates so everyone can stay engaged with the process of re-locating the Issaquah skate park. Again, many thanks for your support.
Due to its remote location, the Issaquah Skate Park has become a frequent site for drug trafficking and nuisance behavior. The skate park is old and no longer provides an optimum recreational experience for teens interested in skate boarding.
The current site needs to be closed but we recognize the importance of healthy recreational sports for teens in our community. In addition to closing the current skate park, the city should find a new site for a much-improved skate park, one that is visible as well as kid- and family-friendly.
For a relatively small investment, Issaquah can have a community asset that promotes healthy youth and strong families for years to come.
We, the undersigned, call on the Issaquah City Council to close the current skate park and to fund and construct a replacement skate park in a more visible, kid- and family-friendly location.
The Re-locate the Issaquah Skate Park petition to Issaquah City Council was written by Issaquah Community Network and is in the category City & Town Planning at GoPetition.
