Raise Low-Lying Bridge: Bridge Road, Buccleuch

The low-lying bridge on Bridge Road in Buccleuch has been a hazard to motorists and pedestrians for many years. Flooding occurs several times during the summer months washing down debris that obstructs passage over the bridge. Last week it was damaged by floods and is no longer open.
This leaves only one bridge (Buccleuch Drive) connecting over 1500 households and many pedestrians on the east side of the Jukskei river with the rest of the city and its infrastructure. The barricades are too low to prevent vehicles from falling into the river. One was washed away in the flood last week (thankfully the driver escaped harm). There is also no pathway for pedestrians to cross the bridge.
We, the undersigned, petition the City of Johannesburg to:
1. Urgently evaluate the structural damage to the existing bridge and provide the necessary short-term repairs.
2. Raise the low-lying bridge to adequately cater for vehicles and pedestrians.
