'Last August a six-part comedy series began on Radio 4 that captivated most of those who heard it – and the people who didn’t like it were just plain wrong.' (The Times)

By the end of its first series, Mark Evans' Dickensian comedy adventure 'Bleak Expectations' (counting Anthony Head, Celia Imrie, Richard Johnson, and Geoffrey Whitehead amongst its excellent cast) was already being hailed as 'one of the most consistently funny comedies produced by Radio 4 in a long while' (Waterstones Bookseller) and The British Comedy Guide describes it as 'a modern classic in the making.'

Series Two was broadcast in the summer of 2008. Chris Campling wrote in The Times, 'No praise can be too high... When the greats of modern comedy queue up to take part in your show in any capacity, however small, you know you’re up there with The Muppets and Extras.'

This show should be on television.

Penny Anderson writes in the Guardian Culture section, 'Thursdays aren't funny. For more than two years now, BBC2 has promised us they would be, but it isn't really working, is it? ... My solution is to go back to radio and transfer Radio 4's Bleak Expectations. It's fresh, well-performed and hilarious, with a high gag hit rate. Somebody please give it a try.'

We, the undersigned, call on one of the British terrestrial television broadcasters to put the brilliant Radio 4 comedy 'Bleak Expectations' on television as soon as possible, and without changing it into a two character flat-share sitcom.
