Provide a Bus Shelter on Buckley Road (west end)

The 67 bus route is a major bus route connecting people in Lillington / North Leamington to the town centre. It serves areas where a significant proportion of the population do not have access to private transport, as evidenced by the report "Achieving Social Inclusion across Warwick District" (April 2014) published by Warwickshire Observatory, Warwickshire County Council. There are bus shelters provided along much of the route into town, including Mason Avenue and Buckley Road, yet curiously there is no shelter at the west end of Buckley Road. This bus stop is in the subdivision of Crown Ward known as Lillington South.

Statistics show that 49% of all households in Lillington South have an annual income of less than £15K (Mosaic data, Lillington Regeneration Needs Assessment, Warwickshire County Council 2016). Thus many of the local residents are reliant on public transport. However, no-one wants to wait for the bus in inclement weather, particularly elderly folk and those with small children, and those who have difficulty standing for long periods have nowhere to sit. Improving access to transport helps reduce social isolation which is a major problem especially in the elderly.

This bus stop is close to a development of bungalows at the top of Gresham Avenue, which is in the adjacent ward. Bus users have been asking for a bus shelter here for a long time, but nothing has happened. A recent enquiry to the County Council revealed that there "was no budget" for a shelter. However, funding for shelters can come from various sources and it seems that none of these has been pursued.
