Although the petition was successful in terms of gaining the support of our MP, a scan done yesterday revealed tumour re-growth to the extent that we cannot afford to wait for a decision on Proton Beam Therapy and have had to settle for another form of radiotherapy in the UK.
Thank you all so very much for your support. Should there be sufficient interest I am planning on setting up a Web Page with the aim of keeping people informed of William's progress and how we intend to carry on the fight.
If you'd be interested in being sent a link to the page please email me at stephen.frost@gmail.com
My 3 year old son, William, was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year. After surgery and chemotherapy it returned this year in August and although he is recovering well from the surgery to have it removed again he needs to have radiotherapy urgently.
William could have Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy in the UK although the treatment that will leave him with the least brain damage is Proton Beam Therapy, not yet available in the UK.
William was approved by the NHS to be funded for treatment in America - the only country they have current agreements with to carry out Proton Beam Therapy for his type of cancer.
However, well over a week later we were informed that the centre in America denied the application based on the fact that William had a tracheostomy fitted (further to his latest surgery) and the flight there would present too much of a risk.
We are urgently petitioning people to persuade the NHS, via our local politician Robert Jenrick (MP for Newark), to refer to, and fund his treatment in Germany where there is a centre in Essen which has the facilities to carry out the treatment.
The Proton Beam Therapy for William petition to Robert Jenrick, MP for Newark was written by Stephen Frost and is in the category Health at GoPetition.
