AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS ONLY PLEASE

Logging of the Glenbog State Forest, home to many threatened species of flora and fauna, began in June 2014.

The forest covers an area of about around 11,000 hectares and is located in the southeast of Australia in New South Wales, with the closest townships being Bemoka and Nimmitabel.

Glenbog is home to many threatened species of flora and fauna.

The aim of this petition is to highlight the extent of environmental damage caused by these logging operations, and to ensure that native fauna are being considered and provided the protection they deserve through a series of reasonable and common-sense measures.

Ultimately, we would like logging to cease in areas of high bare-nosed wombat population such as Glenbog State Forest.

Logging in the northern side of Glenbog State Forest at the Jumping Creek Fire Trail, an area of highly concentrated bare-nosed wombat activity, has begun. With widespread damage already evident, if logging continues in this region it will certainly result in significant displacement of native wildlife, as well as likely injury and death.

We are pleading that this area be left unlogged so that wombats are not displaced or injured. Other fauna are also at risk by this logging activity, including the koala and the Alpine tree frog - both are threatened species recognised under Federal and State environment laws.

If logging continues in this region it will result in displacement of native wildlife - and even injury or death.

We, the undersigned, are calling for a halt in all logging activity in the Glenbog State Forest until the issue of the threat to wildlife is fully considered, appropriate plans in place, and areas of high wombat populations are removed from the planned logging area.

The Protect the native animals of Glenbog State Forest petition to Environmental Protection Agency and Forestry Corporation of NSW was written by Linda Dennis and is in the category Animal Welfare at GoPetition.
