ILLEGAL AND UNSAFE BILLBOARDS SHOULD NOT GET A FREE PASS.
The Mayor of Denver and the City Attorney are seeking City Council support for a change to the city’s zoning ordinance forgiving billboard companies for breaking the law with currently illegal and/or unsafe signs. Many of Denver’s billboards are not in compliance with current law and have gone years without city enforcement. The ordinance gives a free pass to existing billboard corporations and breaks the City’s promise to clean-up our skyline from unsightly billboards.
Denver’s skyline will be threatened if these big corporations are allowed to get away with breaking the law.
Every community deserves to have safe, legal and well-kept billboards. Why give corporations special treatment? Would your average resident or homeowner be given such leniency – NO. We must stop this injustice from moving forward.
We support the Protect Denver Skyline Alliance in their efforts to ensure that Denver’s billboards are safe and free of blight.
We join them in opposing the proposed city ordinance amendment that forgives billboard companies for breaking the law with currently illegal and/or unsafe signs. The ordinance gives a free pass to existing billboard corporations yet puts our communities at risk and breaks the city’s promise to clean-up our skyline from unsightly billboards.
We encourage Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and the City Council to oppose this ordinance change, and encourage them to include the voice of residents in determining the use of our city’s landscape.
