Thankyou to everyone who showed their support by signing this petition. The petition demands have now been met and the dog handler responsible has now been suspended from duty and steps are being taken to prosecute him. Without the public support this may well have been brushed under the carpet but in this case we have succeeded in our cause. A huge thankyou in what was, a devastating situation.
Two German Shepherd police dogs have died in the heatwave after being left in a car by their handler. The dogs were found dead in a police car parked outside Nottinghamshire's force headquarters in Arnold at 2.15pm on Tuesday 30th June 2009. It is believed the dogs' handler was not on duty at the time and had called in to the force's headquarters at Sherwood Lodge, leaving the dogs to over-heat in the parked car.
It is not known how long they were left in the car but temperatures in Nottingham hit 29.4C. The handler has not been suspended.
We, the undersigned, call on Nottinghamshire Police Force to suspend the handler with immediate effect and take steps to prosecute him for the neglect, suffering and subsequent death of the two police dogs in his charge.
The Prosecution for Cruelty to Police Dogs petition to Nottinghamshire Police was written by Laura and is in the category Animal Welfare at GoPetition.
