We all know that in order to make a change in our community, we must act together. The ongoing problem of gang violence in our community continues to rise and we are doing nothing about it.
With the same passion and determination that our community fought for the Little Village Lawndale High School, we must act together to make our community safer for our children.
In 2007 the “Students First Safe Passage Pilot Program” was launched, with four million dollars in funding. As of mid 2007 there were 105 cameras installed near high schools, of which only two were within our 22nd ward.
Yet our children who attend elementary schools, in an area that is highly recognized as the dividing line between gangs, and where conflicts occur on a daily basis there are no cameras. Our “Chicago Alderman have the ability to purchase POD cameras” however we must voice our opinions.
Please come join us as a community for a peaceful march and sign a petition to have Alderman Ricardo Muñoz install a POD camera for the safety of our children and for the improvement of our neighborhood.
Date: To be announced at a later time.
As many as 18 murders and 56 shootings have been tied to the violence between the two gangs in Little Village in the last three years.
We, the undersigned residents of Chicago's 22nd Ward and/or concerned Little Village residents are requesting that Alderman Ricardo Muñoz install a Police Observation Device at the notoriously known dividing line of gang activity (3000 S. Lawndale Ave) in our neighborhood, which is also where our neighborhood’s elementary schools Joseph E. Gary & Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez are located.
