PLO: terminate Oslo, work with all Palestinians for new direction

Palestinians have seen their lands and property taken by hostile settlers. Since the biggest loss in 1948 there has been relentless further dispossession, especially after Israel's army took the remaining land in 1967 and refused to give it up, in defiance of international law.

Despite 20 years of talk about two states “side by side”, Israel’s expansionist leadership has made sure that the whole land remains under its total control. This is the way they aim to keep it — one country, with one law for the privileged, and different law for the rest.

All the instability, wars, bloodshed and heartbreak caused by this massive land-grab can only be put right by justice and restitution. But even on the best terms the "two state solution" never promised justice, and its phoney “peace process” has monopolised the diplomatic stage for decades — allowing accelerated colonisation while misdirecting many of those seeking peace.

Now it is time to put on the agenda the one solution that can change the game, heal the wounds and unite Palestinians and Jewish Israelis of conscience in a powerful movement of co-Resistance to win full and equal rights for all in the one country that Israel has created.

In one democratic country, all law-abiding communities could flourish and find justice and fulfillment.

This petition/statement supports and follows on from the April 2014 Open Letter from 108 distinguished Palestinians to PLO President Mahmoud Abbas, urging him to “declare a final break from the pattern of endless negotiations established at Oslo” and to facilitate a new dialogue among the Palestinian people about future aims.

Their statement ends “we are not ready to surrender, and we reject the attempt by anyone to surrender in our names”.
