Perhaps if we all start a petition like this one and we get millions of these and all sign as many as we can, we can make a difference. That is how they put an end to the human slavery. By consistent daily petitions. It is for free and you can keep it very short so it will not take much of your time. You do not have to write a lot like I did, or read it all if you are too busy. Feel free to copy any text as well. If you copy it up until the quote of Leonardo da Vinci that is enough to get the message across. Add nothing, or a personal touch or some scientific facts, that is up to you. So sign and create one yourself. And then sign a few every day. Please share your petition with all your connections. That is how they put an end to the human slavery. Apparently by very active continuous daily protest petitions directed to the British house of commons it was first accomplished in England to put an end to human slavery. Wales and Scotland followed firmly and the rest of the world slowly moved towards this too. It is not only about changing laws. We do not want people to start to illegally eat or exploit our friends either. So everybody's mentality has to shift. Hoping for everybody to become conscious and kind. Einstein’s theory of relativity can help us realise: having a large population on this earth can be a blessing not a problem. If you translate E = MC2 Energy = Mass x speed of light squared to Energy = man x consciousness squared you can see we have an inexhaustible source of good energy if we raise our consciousness.

Speciesism is no better than sexism, or racism, or any other type of respectless crime. And to tolerate this by law is not acceptable. There are all these different laws worldwide regarding the protection of animals. How great would it be for all animals to be protected everywhere. For it to become illegal worldwide to kill or exploit any animal.

In some countries, like germany for instance, it is illegal to kill a wasp or any other wild animal. One can get a fine of a lot of money for doing this because they are considered valuable for the environment.. In India it is still allowed to use leg hold traps. A very cruel device that is illegal in almost all countries in the world. In South Korea they just made it illegal to kill dogs and cat’s while in Canada this is still considered legal; to kill and even eat your own pets.
Now this is not very sophisticated in my eyes. These are living creatures that share our earth with us.
Apart from these sudden killing of our friends there are also the unfortunate ones that live in brutal conditions serving the food industry all of their lives. Smart creatures of all sizes of whom we are not clever enough to crack their language code.
For all we know they might understand us perfectly well.
A wide variety of animals can learn some human commands but how much of their language do we really understand?
Scientists studied prairie dogs, a type of rodent. By recording and observing the acoustic patterns using a sonogram which shows distinctions in wavelength and amplitude among different calls. They discovered their distress calls had different sounds for different predators. For human distress calls; they discovered much variation in their sounds. They investigated this further and discovered they had sounds for different characteristics of humans and they described them as fat or skinny, tall or short and when they had the same person walking through the camp with a different colour shirt every time, they were amazed to see, they even had a sound for the colour of the t-shirt. Also the sound pattern of speed and direction was deciphered. All animals make sounds at each other. It is in my eyes reasonably ignorant to assume there is no meaning to it but we can not know for sure until we investigate this further like it has been done with the prairie dogs.
Only their distress calls could be deciphered because the rest of their chit chatter was to difficult to make sense of but this by no means means there is no meaning to it. They could be telling each other detailed information. They could have names for each other (like dolphins do, as studies have confirmed but other animals could have this as well, names for each other) and if understood they could even be funny? From observing and recording prairie dogs in zoos it was discovered they only made one sound over and over again with no variation. It was described as they probably did not learn an intricate language from their parents.
I would be more inclined to interpret this as they are screaming because they are very very scared all the time.
A key hallmark of language is productivity. This means the creation of new words. Even this the rodents can do. When introducing 3 unfamiliar shapes, like an oval a square and a triangle. Shapes they would not encounter normally, the animals made up 3 distinctly different sounds for them.
But as you probably know these are not the only smart animals sharing our earth with us.
Studies show sea lions possess the ability to think logically and can deduce if a=b and b=c, then a=c.
Studies show that baboons know how to identify stress and cope with it. They also have complex social systems and when confronted with difficult situations they can think critically.
Studies show white-mustached Portia spiders demonstrate special learning skills.
Studies show squids have the ability to learn new skills and use tools to entertain them and protect them from harm.

Studies show dolphins and whales have spindle neurons, these are specialized brain cells associated with an organism’s ability to: recognize, remember, reason, communicate, perceive, adapt to change, problem solve and understand.
Studies show whales limbic system is more complex than our own. This is the center of emotional and cognitive thinking, social communication and self awareness.
Studies show sheep possess a better memories than humans in some situations. They also show a wide variety of emotions to various things going on around them what also is a sign of very high intelligence.
Studies show sheep can perform executive cognitive tasks that have never been shown to exist in any other large animals apart from monkeys. Scientists at the University of Cambridge have found that sheep have the brainpower to equal rodents, monkeys and, in some tests, even humans.The results suggest that sheep have relatively advanced learning capabilities, are adaptable, can map out their surroundings mentally and may even be able to plan ahead. Research at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge has also shown that sheep have the ability to recognise faces and react to different facial expressions.
Studies show cows possess sophisticated cognitive and problem solving abilities and remarkable emotional sensitivity. The cows studied by zoologist Dr. Daniel Weary, a professor in the Animal Welfare Program at the University of British Columbia were deeply affected by emotional and physical pain of early separation from their mothers and dehorning, which changed the brain in a way that led to a negative cognitive bias akin to pessimism. And cows housed in isolation which is common practice in farming exhibit anxiety and performed poorly on cognitive tests.
“These are highly developed mammals that have been solving problems for a long, long time,” he told The Huffington Post. “If anything, it reflects poorly on us that we’re surprised that these animals are smart. Of course these animals are smart.”
A 2004 study by Cambridge University researchers revealed cows have "eureka" moments, taking pleasure in their own learning achievements.
Studies show chicks master a number of complex skills including numeracy and basic structural engineering, it takes children until the age of four to accomplish some of these feats.
Studies have shown that chickens can consciously choose to delay gratification, understanding that if they refused food initially they would receive a larger amount of food later. what means chickens have the capacity to demonstrate self-control and even to consider the future. Chickens have great memories. They are able to remember and recognize more than 100 different individuals, including humans. They have strong personalities, form friendships and have a range of interests. They have the capacity to empathize. For instance, some chickens are protective not only of their own chicks but also of chicks that are not related to them.
Studies show Chickens have some sense of numbers. Experiments with newly hatched domestic chicks showed they can discriminate between quantities. They also have an idea about ordinality, which refers to the ability to place quantities in a series. Five-day-old domestic chicks presented with two sets of objects of different quantities disappearing behind two screens were able to successfully track which one hid the larger number by apparently performing simple arithmetic in the form of addition and subtraction.
Studies show Chicken communication is quite complex, and consists of a large repertoire of different visual displays and at least 24 distinct vocalizations. According to the study: The birds possess the complex ability of referential communication, which involves signals such as calls, displays and whistles to convey information. They may use this to sound the alarm when there is danger, for instance. This ability requires some level of self-awareness and being able to take the perspective of another animal, and is also possessed by highly intelligent and social species, including primates.
Studies by Dr. Donald Broom, at the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom), affirms that a domestic pig is capable of recognizing itself. A method for determining if an animal has this type of self awareness. Pigs are also capable of experiencing a wide range of emotions and are able to feel love and fear, among others. Pigs experiments have reached a very high level of complexity. Some pig experiments encouraged the pig subjects to solve difficulties that can only occur if the mental images of the problem are reconstructed. They then mentally search for the solution, before putting it into practice. Pigs can manipulate a remote control to get the result they want. Pigs are able to memorize long journeys in search of something they already know (They have a great memory).

This list could go on and on really.
If it is not for the obvious signs that can be seen and experienced by everybody: that animals feel. If it is not for their cries everybody can hear when they are in pain. Cows cry very loud for weeks when their calves are taken away for instance. Will it be the proof of their intelligence, that will make all people on earth respect animals? Because if it is, is there not enough evidence already?! Or are we simply not smart enough to understand how smart they really are. Or will it be when we see compassion in animals. What will give us the compassion to not kill our fellow earthlings. There are again numerous examples that can be given. Here are a few: Elephants are known to bury their loved ones with leaves and grass and visit the grave sites for years to come. Rats refuse to eat if this will mean an other rat will get a shock, so it was tested. Dolphins perform acts of kindness by rescuing swimmers from sharks and guiding stranded whales back to sea. Humpback whales are known to protect seals, sea lions, porpoises, dolphins and the calves of larger whale species from killer whales.The humpback whales race towards the excited calls of the predators not knowing who is the victim. It can be argued the animals get something out of their altruistic behavior and from the standpoint of empirical biology the notion of altruism is a misnomer anyway, or does not exist. Because helping others almost always doses us with some kind of dopaminergic reward. But this unromantic opinion does not take the power of love into account.
Putting all of this aside; let it be obvious they should not have to prove themselves in any way, for them to have the right to live and not to be murdered or exploited.
All these different laws. Some countries protecting some animals while other animals can be eaten and/ or kept in concentration camps where they are being completely exploited and perhaps fully aware of the fact that they will be brutally murdered soon, like so many of their friends and relatives have been before them.
They are very smart creatures; they might know! It is pure horror that is going on on a very large scale. How did the protective laws come about? What were the processes that occured that lead to these decisions. How great would it be if this could happen for all animals all over the world.
