Thanks to your support we got council to provide more information and further details of their plan
Burwood Council needs more open green space for our kids to play in, local workers to relax in, and all of us to enjoy.
Now our Council has released plans for the development of a small park and underground cultural centre on the corner of Condor Street and Railway Parade (currently a car park for the library). This was part of their recent deal to allow massive redevelopment of Burwood Plaza and the town centre.
With all the new high-rise apartments already being built in the area, the importance of this new park can not be over stated.
Council says they are consulting with the community to "inform the future uses and operational plan for the site", but this is looking like a tick-a-box exercise. There is limited information about the proposal making it hard for residents to make an informed contribution.
The rapid growth of our town centre is putting increased pressure on our existing green space and community facilities. Burwood Council must look beyond the minimum requirements and do everything possible to ensure they hear from us and let us know how we can contribute to these plans.
We call on Burwood Council to:
- Provide higher quality images and more detailed information about plans for the corner of Condor St and Railway Pde
- Directly notify all residents in the Burwood Council area of this consultation opportunity
- Provide inclusive opportunities for residents to engage with Council on the issue of new public green space and community facilities
- Prioritise the establishment of new parks and community facilities across the Burwood Council area
