Why the proposed Fernandez Park site is unsuitable for Pinole's skate park:
• Noise: too close to residential area: 150 yards (450 feet) is recommended standard.* The Fernandez Park site is 60 feet from nearest house. The site will produce a noise nuisance for many blocks surrounding.
• Visibility is poor: Especially at the far end next to the creek path. This portion has a high risk of becoming an attractive nuisance for graffiti, drugs and other unwanted behaviors. This area was already the site of a shooting and double murder in 2005.
• Railroad tracks are an attractive nuisance: Due liability issues the City will not be providing on-site supervision. There have been several injuries and deaths involving young people and trains in Pinole and the surrounding area since 2000.
• Increased traffic and parking problems on Tennent Avenue: Increased car and skateboard traffic on Tennent Ave, as well as parking and littering issues.
We the undersigned residents of the City of Pinole call up the City Council to abandon their plans of locating a skate park at Fernandez Park adjacent to the BNSF railroad right-of-way.
This location is too close to residences and the noise would negatively impact the Old Town area. Additionally, visibility at the location is poor and it has a high risk of becoming an attractive nuisance for graffiti, drugs and other unwanted behaviors.
We urge the City Council to find another more suitable location for Pinole's skate park.
