Psychological & Financial Abuse to be an offence on the Isle of Man

What is domestic abuse?

Physical, psychological, financial & sexual violence that takes place within an intimate or family-type relationship & that forms a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour.

The courts are in favour of sentencing for both physical & sexual abuse but what about the others?!

Why do they not count?
It is still abuse!

For anyone that’s been emotionally abused it not easy to just switch off and forget it ever happened. The guilt, self blame, feeling like a failure, wondering where your strength was at the time, the confusion, the hurt, the walking on eggshells. Constantly questioning yourself and wondering what you did so wrong & in turn mental health facilities are overrun with patients asking themselves why?

I’m asking for your help by signing this petition to have emotional, financial & social abuse seen as an offence by the Isle of Man Courts of Justice and penalties dealt with accordingly. This will be given to the Isle of Man Government to discuss at a Tynwald sitting.

Abuse of any kind should not be tolerated!
