Phoenix, Oregon Needs a Skatepark

Phoenix is the only city in the Rogue Valley that does not have a skatepark for its many skaters, yet hosts a large high school which also enrolls all high school age students from neighboring Talent, OR, the county, and a middle school.

Skateboarders have no legal place to skate in Phoenix and are often warned by police when skating in streets and parking lots. The cities which do have skateparks are too far in proximity from where skaters live to get there on foot, skate, or bike unattended. There is 35 acres of recreation space in Phoenix, most of it very underutilized and attracting crime.

There is an abundance of playground equipment for small kids which is also very underused installed at all of the parks as discussion and approval continues for adding swings, water splash pad, etc. None of the City Parks & Rec sponsored activities are geared towards pre and teenagers i.e. Sprinkler Nights, Easter Egg Hunt, Santa Tree Lighting, etc. There is an abundance of underserved teens in Phoenix.

Skateboarding is the most popular and fastest growing sport and recreational activity among teens nationwide and would improve their lives, skills and recreational needs immensely with the addition of a state of the art skatepark. Thank you.
