AirBnB and other similar online short term rental facilitators have begun to plague our residential neighborhoods with increased traffic, increased street parking, noise, parties, unvetted renters who may pose a risk to the neighborhood, etc.. Unable to sell their homes, owners who do not reside in their homes are turning them into full time hotels (non-hosted rentals) no different than a Motel 6. Our quality of life is affected and these "B&B/hotel owners" do not pay the taxes they should because of a loop hole. Our property value is affected. We have neighbors move to get away from it. Our safety is affected. They are making us miserable.
Other Cities across the nation, and in Utah, have passed STR (Short Term Rental) Ordinances which deter these types of rentals. It also benefits the City in that those who choose to violate the ordinance face steep fines, and those who comply pay huge fees and taxes (as a hotel would). Some cities, such as San Francisco, have seen an approximate 50% decline in rental since passing its ordinance.
Our City Government has a responsibility to its citizens. We want reasonable restrictions to protect our vested interested in our "suburb" neighborhoods.

Mayor Staggs, City Manager and the Riverton City Counsel,
AirBnB and other short term rental facilitators have caused an unacceptable influx of short term rentals (STR), that have not only impacted older neighborhoods but newer ones as well.
Our City ordinances are unenforceable and out of date, giving owners who use AirBnB and other similar sites a loophole to operate full time "hotels/B&Bs" in our private suburb neighborhoods which are not zoned for commercial use. Most of these rentals are not owner hosted rentals, but are whole house rentals with revolving tenants every 2-3 days.
You have a responsibility to your citizens. The rights of a few property owners to make a buck should not have such a negative impact our communities.
We want reasonable restrictions put into place that regulate STR and discourage their existence in our neighborhoods. We want our residential neighborhoods back.
Sincerely,
The Residents of Riverton CIty
