Petition to bring Google Fiber to Charles County Maryland

Charles County Maryland has grown in the past decade, it’s median income per family has went from a average $67,000.00 to an average of $87,600.00 per family. Internet speed has also grown but at a much slower rate. Fiber optic speed has become a legitimate trend that has sweep across the US and the world, the challenge is that an ecosystem has not yet developed to take advantage of it.

Charles County do have access to fiber optics but only at megabit speeds from ISP providers Verizon, on average a Verizon fiber optic package of 50Mbps (up) and 50 Mbps (dn) cost an average $65.00 per month, and the price increase expediently for their higher speeds or 100 Mbps and above. Making purchasing faster internet speeds a wallet buster and challenging for a family on a modest income.

Google Fiber has established gigabit internet in three US metro areas, with nine more targeted for the near future. Offering baseline speeds such as 1000 Mbps (up) and 1000 Mbps (dn) for the starting price of $70.00, 10 times faster than Verizon 50 Mbps package, at almost the same price.

Google, of course, wants people and companies to use the internet like it's a unlimited resource, because as the web's largest internet advertising company, it makes more money the more everyone uses the internet. Google Fiber is tackling this problem by putting a new face on a decades-old technology with the hopes of using it to bring gigabit internet into businesses and homes — that's over 10 times the capacity of most of today's internet connections in US homes and small businesses.
