Street vendors are an important part of the business community adding atmosphere, charm and culture to our community.
They are business owners who should be welcomed and encouraged rather than shunned and discriminated against.
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Coos Bay to:
1. Permit daily street vendors on all public property as long as they do not unduly interfere with pedestrian or vehicle traffic, cause a danger to the public, sell anything illegal or are breaking state or federal laws. They should be held to the same safety standards as existing street fair vendors.
2. While street vendors should be encouraged to conduct their business in a neat and orderly way, just like any other business, they should not be prevented from operating their business by excessive city regulations or fees.
3. Permits for street vending should be available on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and should be available for much lower fees than what are charged at street fairs and farmer's markets (unless it is a fair or market day), because individual vendors will not draw as much of a crowd and excessive fees could prevent them from operating their business successfully.
