PETITION OPPOSING PROPOSED TRAFFIC DIVERTER AT SE LINCOLN/50TH STREETS
- Target:
- Commissioner Dan Saltzman, Portland City Council; Also PBOT staff
- Region:
- United States of America
WHEREAS: The PBOT Lincoln-Harrison Greenway Plan to divert traffic at SE 50th/Lincoln fails to show a compelling need for such a radical step; OR consideration of the impact of nearby street projects/conditions, i.e., the pending "Bus Rapid Transit" plan along SE Division Street, and specific limitations along and commitments to East Hawthorne and adjacent side streets, and
WHEREAS: Denying motorists local access to their home streets adjacent to the lighted intersection at SE Lincoln Street, is unfriendly and unworkable, and,
WHEREAS: Creating semi-private, gated space during non-rush hours along 10 blocks of SE Lincoln, at the expense of increased cut-through traffic on numbered streets, is inappropriate and dangerous;
THEREFORE: We residents who live near and/or commute along SE Lincoln Street in the Richmond and Mt. Tabor neighborhoods, call on PBOT to remove this diverter plan from the work schedule and craft a realistic solution that accommodates all local parties: pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, who live by and share the Lincoln Street Greenway.
