Travis County is an urban county with its limited land space primarily dedicated to the City of Austin, the State Capitol of Texas.
Presently, Travis County has five active landfills that accept trash from 33 surrounding counties. While Travis County Commissioner’s Court recognizes that landfills pose a health and safety risk, the current ordinances do not limit the number or size of landfills.
Under state law, Travis County Commissioners have the authority to PROHIBIT the creation of new landfills.
Therefore, we the undersigned voters, oppose the creation of additional landfills in Travis County. Furthermore, we will vote against any county commissioners who will vote for the formation of new landfills.
