Petition Against Demarest Farm's Use of Public School and Residential Roads for Parking

Demarest Farms, located at 244 Wierimus Road in Hillsdale NJ, is using public school parking lots and local residential streets for overflow parking for its customers. The town of Hillsdale has only installed parking signs in half of the residential community which has resulted in shifting the parking problem to more of the neighborhood and town. Demarest Farms was using Hillsdale's Ann Blanche Smith Elementary School parking lot without the consent of the Board of Education and residential streets to financially benefit at the expense of Hillsdale Residents.

*Employees from the farm are loitering in residential streets and at the entrances to school grounds on Saturdays and Sundays with Farm Parking signs to direct private business traffic to park in these areas. This has resulted in an increase in health and safety concerns to include noise, pollution, and human/traffic activity that is adversely affecting the local neighborhoods.

*Community sports programs have been forced to relocate from Ann Blanche Smith Elementary fields to other fields riddled with animal feces so this private business can use public/state funded school property and private residential streets for parking.

*Patrons are using residential and school property as picnic grounds, leaving garbage, and using these sites as bathroom facilities leaving behind a health hazard and wake of trash for the school and residents to clean up.

*Streets are double parked with cars posing a fire hazard in residential areas.

*Residents are concerned about the health and safety of the community.

*Residents are concerned about the legal ramifications to the town, private property owners, and school in the event an injury or property damage occurs by a patron.
