NSW Police Force
Region:
Australia

Although the NSW Police Force is overwhelmed with current number of recruits, there is definitely no abundance of recruits that will still be in the job 5 years later.

There is a high turnover in staff in the NSW Police Force due to the fact that there are a lot of young recruits who don’t see the career through. This is causing problems as higher ranking officers are decreasing thus shortening the number of experienced officers out in the field. I see this as a problem.

Knowing that there are higher skilled officers on the street makes me feel safer in my community. Younger officers these days are not the issue. Younger officers that are inexperienced in life are the issue. Which is my finding with my interactions with police officers. Any potential members of the NSW Police Force are unable to apply due to their financial commitment regarding their Mortgage, transport, and Family responsibilities. This is a problem that is seeing a waste of talent across the state.

Instead of pouring the required funds into paying our much needed recruits (the future of our Police Force) the Police Minister for NSW is more concerned about pushing recruitment drives in other Commonwealth Countries such as Canada, Great Brittan and New Zeland, and inviting members of their currently serving Police Service to take up employment as an Australian Police Officer with an attractive benifit. These officers will keep their current rank and salary under NSW Police Force employment.

For a probationary constable in Canada their annual salary is $45,504 (Canadian Dollar) A NSW Police Officer will earn $48,000 (AUD). For a Canadian Officer to join the Australian police force it will cost our Tax Payers around an extra $4,826 annually per officer that is recruited to Australia from Canada which is the minimum it will cost Tax payers if Probationary Constables are recruited.

Canada’s Police Officers annual salary below.

Probationary Constable
$45,504
4th Class Constable (after 1 year of service) $52,504
3rd Class Constable (after 2 years of service) $56,005
2nd Class Constable (after 3 years of service) $63,005
1st Class Constable (after 4 years of service) $70,006

10 yrs with increment
requirement fulfilled (105%) $73,506

Now the interesting fact is that the NSW Police Force Minister is so concerned about budget that he sees it unnecessary to pay recruits. Yet put together the additional cost of $4,826 it will cost just to employ 1 overseas officers, and the cost of running the recruitment drive in the participating countries. It could potentially be millions of dollars. If just 100 Probationary Canadian Constables are employed in NSW it will Cost 482,600 alone as a minimum annually.

The government is hypercritical with the push that everything we have is Australian made and owned to keep jobs in Australia, yet it is so willing to outsource all the advertising and job vacancies to other commonwealths. This will in fact take work out of the Australian workforce for no justified reason at all. This all comes down to a government is not prepared to spend time in programs to keep NSW Police.

PAY OUR RECRUITS
KEEP OUR FORCE STRONG

We, the undersigned, are taking action to restore the NSW Police Force to a more experienced Police Force in New South Wales.

We Strongly agree that the NSW Police Force needs to focus on making the recruitment process an affordable option for all people in New South Wales and that Police Recruitment Drive Funding is restricted to Australian use.
