The proposals for the new traffic scheme in Preston Paignton have been met with total opposition by the local residents and commercial businesses. Ther have been 2 public meetings whereby our objections have been dismissed by the local partnership and councillors having been told "what is best for us".
Not only do they bear no benefit to the area but the detremental effect will be devastating to local commerce and the community. The proposals will remove 2 very large popular trees and lower road safety in the area.
Our objections have been rebuked by the local Preston Partnership who seem to be acting on behalf of Torbay Council and representing them to us as opposed to the other way round.
We have spoken to our local MP and media and are desperate to raise awareness to this system before it is forced upon us purely for the reason of gaining government funding.
The main points of the proposed scheme are:-
1./ Narrow the pavement at Preston Gardens and create a 3rd Bus Priority Lane only as far as Preston Car Park.
2./ Removal of all the parking from Manor Cross to Preston gardens.
3./ Removal of the 2 large trees opposite Modern Motoring Torquay rd.
4./ Make Old Torquay Rd a No Exit / No left turn onto torquay road directing all traffic up Preston down Road.
5./ Paris Rd will become a one way thereby stoping access from Morin Rd.
We the residents and Businesses of Preston Paignton wish to oppose the new proposed Traffic Managment Scheme.
We feel we are not being represented by our local partnership on this issue and want the proposals changed.
We wish for Torbay Council to review its idea and cease the forced implementation of this scheme on the Preston area.
